Yay!  Copenhagen!

We’ve arrived. And what a trip it was. There is nothing like working, leaving your house at 5pm, driving 4 hours to the airport, slogging through lines, and then spending 8 hours sitting in an 18 inch wide seat trying to sleep sitting up. Ahhhh . . . . air travel.

Actually the worst of the trip was traffic to JFK.  It wasn’t too bad until we hit 278, paid a $14 toll to move 1/2 mile in 30 minutes just to get off at the next exit to make it around road construction. My guess is there is never a good time to close down 3 out of 4 lanes on an NYC freeway. UGH. But with some slight renavigation, we made it to the airport on time.

For being 10pm the airport was quite a bustling place and making it through check in and security got us to the gate about 30 minutes prior to boarding.

We flew Norwegian and got to ride a Dreamliner. Both Jimmy and I think this is the biggest plane we have ever been on. There are lots of plusses

  • 8 bathrooms
  • 8 exits
  • Ambient lighting
  • Bigger windows – with a cool sunglass feature. no shade, just window tinting at the touch of a button.   Unfortunately, ours didn’t work.  I heard one of the flight attendants say they had to turn them on – could that be true?
  • Personal entertainment with movies, games, snack ordering and a constant look at the planes stats

There were of course some minuses. We sat right next to the bathroom. Great when you have to go but not so great when the lines build cuz everyone on the plane has to go. And there seems to be quite a design flaw in the bathroom door. Remind me to write to Boeing and ask if they could build in a non-slam feature. If you just let the door close automatically it slams quite loudly. This does not make for a good nights sleep.
Both Jimmy and I had pre-ordered the “tasty” meals. That description was only somewhat accurrate. We both gave the food a 5-6 out of 10 but service was definitely 8-9. All the stewards were very friendly and service was fast. One nice thing was how they did the food service.  It isn’t a big prolonged ordeal but just a delivery to the ones who pre-ordered and then those that order snacks via the entertainment system.  No clogging up the aisles, stopping at every seat.

Sum up: I would definitely fly Norwegian again. Service was great and things seemed to run smoothly. However, I believe we will be avoiding using the NYC airports. Traffic is such a hassle that it makes the money savings of the possible cheaper ticket less important.

Can’t wait to see the city and share the pics!  Post soon!
