And So It Begins . . .

stickgirlyay

While having a discussion among my friends last week, one was bemoaning the fact that over the last year or so she had gained some extra weight.  If you knew my friend, you would no doubt roll your eyes, curse her slim figure, and concur with me that her bemoaning is wholly unwarranted (but I digress).  In an attempt to give her “comfort” it was mentioned that this was just contentment weight.  She was in a good place . . .  happy . . . content.  I thought . . . “that’s it, that’s my problem too . . . contentment.   Hmmmm . . . well . . . that . . . and French fries!”

And, at the suggestion of my above-mentioned friend . . . the birth of a blog  . . .  “Contentment and French Fries”.   While it is no “Whiff of Gingham and Pecorino” (I’m just a wanna-be blogger, not a novelist  – NY Times Fake Best Sellers), I was informed by my boss that it was definitely “sticky”.  Being new to blogging, I have no idea what that means, but I’m definitely going to find out at some point.

I had been considering writing a blog for a while, but have been a bit wary.  Should I be a blogger?  Who would read?  Who would care?  What would I write about?  All very important questions, so I came up with my personal list of why to blog.  It’s bulleted so people will read it – I’ve read that’s important too.

  • Job Experience – So many administrative assistant/personal assistant jobs out there (which is my current forte) are starting to look for social media experts.  Twitter . . . Facebook . . . Instagram.  Many are also looking for someone to blog, perhaps even ghostwrite for “them” on a weekly (or at least a regular) basis.  This seems especially true for entrepreneur types and small companies – the niche I’m looking to stay in.  It would be great to include a regular blog on my resume.
  • Creative Outlet – It has been hard for me to find a creative outlet that I can do regularly and stick too.  I’ve always liked to write, but it’s difficult to keep up journaling or story writing while leading a busy, fun-filled life.  I’m hoping that combining writing with technology (a weakness of mine) will not only give me a new skill but keep the creative juices flowing.
  • Share My Passions – I think it takes a lot of courage to share the things you love with others.  It can open you up to ridicule or criticism.  I want to get to a point in my life where that doesn’t matter so much.  I’m not there yet, so no comments that will make me cry :-), but I would like to be there someday

There are probably lots more cool reasons to blog and I hope I experience them all.  For now this is what I will set out to do.  Share my interests (cooking, gardening, fitness, travel, birding, my hubby, my kitties, and my doggie, to name a few) and have some fun honing my writing skills and getting job experience.  It’s all good – just like Contentment and French Fries.
