I’m Not Putting It Off . . . I’m Weighing My Options

Procrastinate – From the Latin “procrastinatio” meaning “one more game of Word Chums”.

For me, procrastination is like an anxiety filled game of hide and seek.  I bury myself in mindless things, so the tasks I need to do won’t find me.  It never fails though, I always lose that game and have to accomplish things under self-imposed pressure.

I have always been a huge procrastinator.  My school days were filled with easy going Friday nights and nail biting Sundays.  Even in my work life, I continually find it difficult to start tasks I see as especially daunting or particularly hideous.  Once I get going, it is fine, but it is just getting to that point that I find difficult.

If you’re like me, there is no need to hide from you tasks forever.  A quick search of the web gives up some really good tips for procrastinators TIPS – CLICK HERE.  Here are a few of my favorites:

  1. Make a smart to do list including only the items that you’re avoiding.  Then set deadlines.
  2. Break the task down into smaller tasks to lessen the sense of being overwhelmed.
  3. Bargain with yourself, if you finish your planned task now, you can, say . . . play Word Chums later.
  4. Ask someone to help you complete the task . . . “Oh Jimmmmmyyyyyy!!!!!”
  5. Make your intentions public.  Sure, why not have your friends pressure you 🙂
  6. Change your environment. Get organized.

So explains why it has been so long since I have blogged.  Let me tell you, it feels good to get back in the saddle again.

So here I am, applying #5.  Look for upcoming blogs in the next week about my 8K run in Philly and the refurbishing of an antique cabinet.
